Superstar was built for Tallink by Fincantieri, as a sister ship of the Moby Aki they had built in 2005 for Moby Lines (which turn was based on two ships built for Moby by Daewoo in 2001). Originally the order for Superstar included an option for a sister ship (as did the order for Star), and it has been theorized that the Superstar and her unrealized sister were meant for Tallink's planned service from Estonia and/or Finland to Germany, which never materialized due to Tallink's buying the Baltic Sea operations of Superfast Ferries in 2006.
